NZ Schools Photographic Competition 2008
1 May 2008 – 25 July 2008
New Zealand’s largest Photographic Competition for students.
An annual competition, since 2005. Free entry. Open to all primary, intermediate and secondary school students. Prizes include digital cameras, laminators, trophies, paid work study, scholarship studying Media Arts at WINTEC, etc.

Smokefree Pacifica Beats – Regionals

Smokefree Pacifica Beats is open for entry to anyone in Aotearoa who is attending ‘school’ for at least 16 hours a week and who is no older than 19 years of age on 30 May, 2008. Entries for Smokefree Pacifica Beats are NOW OPEN! Packs have been sent out to every secondary school and kura kaupapa in Aotearoa – hassle your music teacher for more information! Entries officially close on Friday 30 May. The regional events begin in Tūranga – nui – a – Kiwa(Gisborne) on Sat 14 June and finish down in Porirua on Sat 9 August, we’ll be updating the site with more information around the shows over the next couple of weeks; venues, ticket prices, show times etc…. stay tuned for updates!

All levels of skill and ability welcome. The workshops will offer participants the opportunity to express their creativity through movement in a fun and supportive environment. Go Solo 2008 presents the exciting future of Kiwi theatre with twenty new New Zealand compositions created and performed by third year actors from Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School. 2008 brings huge variations to the stage – from stylised physical theatre to hip – hop, stand – up comedy to an epic cataclysm, one thousand garage props to a bare – naked stage. Some highlights this year include: a central North Island sheep farmer who loses his farm to Lord of the Rings tourism, a boozed up bride planning the perfect wedding night, if only she can get her appliances to work, an apocalyptic crisis in a pet food factory in Miramar, the delicate explorations of a Maori Mormon matriarch, and a Vietnam veteran on Anzac Day. Go Solo 2008 is directed by Jade Eriksen (Penumbra, Arcane, Pakiwaitara), Toi Whakaari Director Annie Ruth and 2007 acting graduate Sophie Roberts (Angels in America, Streetcar Named Desire). We have 20 new works on offer, 5 groups to choose from and 45 chances to catch a showing. Every group promises a rich collision of individual perspectives and bold theatre making. The 2008 International Secondary Schools Digital Design Challenge
24 July 2008
Secondary Schools are invited to participate in this challenge which encourages students to stretch the boundaries of their imagination by conceptualising, modelling and generating a design using any software within three hours. There are eight categories – animation (open and years 8 – 10), graphic design (open and years 8 – 10), three – dimensional design (open and years 8 – 10), architectural design and web page design (open to all year levels). Evaluation is based on how students articulate and communication their ideas based on industry expectations and requirements. More information available on the website.
