Safety and EOTC: A good practice guide for New Zealand schools

This comprehensive resource provides a rationale, safety management process, legal obligations, and planning templates for a good EOTC programme. It replaces the 1995 publication, EOTC Guidelines for Good Practice.

Outdoor Activities Guidelines for Leaders
This resource outlines current, accepted practice for running a wide variety of outdoor activities. The guidelines aim to assist outdoor leaders, whether volunteer or employed instructors, teachers, youth group leaders or guides, to provide quality outdoor experiences for participants. You can purchase the resource, or sections can be downloaded as PDFs.

The National Incident Database Project
This project is a joint effort of outdoor organisations within New Zealand. It aims to create a standard method for collecting and analysing outdoor incident data. Includes outdoor safety resources and incident reports.

Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC)
Visit the recently updated LEOTC website. LEOTC is a Ministry of Education-funded project of educational programmes run by a range of organisations providing hands-on experiences for students on school visits, complementing and enriching classroom programmes. This website contains schools' learning stories (video and text) and case studies, as well as information about LEOTC for providers, teachers, parents, and boards of trustees.

This scholarship covers full university tuition fees and programme support for students who excel academically, in sports or performing arts. This scholarship is open to school leavers, current tertiary students, and students who have the capacity to lead. Download a brochure (PDF 424KB) about this programme.

EOTC Survey Results
An EOTC survey was emailed to all school principals in October 2006. The Primary Schools Report and Secondary Schools Report were produced as a result of the survey and these reports are now available. They were distributed to schools in July 2007. The reports provide a national picture of EOTC, including the benefits, barriers, and enablers of EOTC in schools. They also provide evidence to inform EOTC policy and practice. PowerPoint presentations showing graphs of the Primary Schools Results and Secondary Schools Results are also available. These resources are to assist schools to share the EOTC survey results with their communities.

The National Incident Database Project
This project is a joint effort of outdoor organisations within New Zealand. It aims to create a standard method for collecting and analysing outdoor incident data. Includes outdoor safety resources and incident reports.
