World Environment Day 5 June … show the way today!
The Ministry of Education is encouraging every school, whare kura, kura, kōhanga reo and early childhood centre to do something on 5 June to mark World Environment Day and to share their plans to contribute to a sustainable future.
From 22 May all schools will be able to log in to Show the Way Today site to select eco-actions that schools might plan to do on 5 June and beyond. They will also be able to add their own future focused sustainability pledge which will be revealed on an online world map on the day.

Visit this interactive site that provides young people with a forum through which to learn more about depression. There is information on what depression is, signs people should look for, and where to go for help. A team of qualified counsellors can be contacted via text or email for guidance and support.

Asia Knowledge
Engaging with Asia is vital to New Zealand’s future. The new Asia Knowledge kete on TKI is aligned to the new curriculum and provides information and teaching resources for becoming Asia Aware. It includes an integrated teaching and learning resource on the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Change in ordering process for MOE resources and publications
The process for schools to order Ministry of Education resources and publications has changed. From 1 March 2008, Wickliffe Ltd is responsible for customer services and warehousing of the Ministry’s publications and resources – to order, phone 0800 660 662 or fax 0800 660 663. A new catalogue will soon be available for ordering online or by email.

Sir Edmund Hillary Remembered
We dedicate this hot topic to New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary who died in Auckland on Friday 11 January 2008 aged 88. He is famous not only for his international climbing and exploring feats but for his generosity, humility, and his lifetime dedication to humanitarian work. Visit the newly updated wickED website. wickED is the Ministry of Education's student-focused site for 7–12 year-olds, and contains curriculum-based fun learning activities that you can use to support your classroom programme. The latest topic, The Human Body, has fun activities and interactives about the skeletal, digestive, muscular, nervous, respiratory, and circulatory systems. TravelWise – Thinking Transport
TravelWise is a programme run by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority in partnership with Auckland Regional Council, Land Transport New Zealand, Ministry of Health, Roadsafe Auckland, and other Auckland city councils. TravelWise works with schools and communities to improve travel choices and make it safer and easier to consider travel options. The programme includes information on road safety, walking school buses, walking and cycling, and guidelines for schools and work places to implement safety programmes.

Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC)
Visit the recently updated LEOTC website. LEOTC is a Ministry of Education-funded project of educational programmes run by a range of organisations providing hands-on experiences for students on school visits, complementing and enriching classroom programmes. This website contains schools' learning stories (video and text) and case studies, as well as information about LEOTC for providers, teachers, parents, and boards of trustees.

Mission-On: The food and nutrition guidelines and toolkit
Check out the Ministries of Education and Health food and nutrition guidelines and toolkit for early childhood education services, managers, boards of trustees, principals, and teachers. The toolkit includes practical tips, resources, and suggestions for teachers, parents, and whānau. The toolkit is available in te reo Māori, and the Samoan, Cook Island Māori, Tokelauan and Niuean languages.

Explore the new navigation titles on wickED, the Ministry of Education’s student focused website for 7 –12 year-old students. Check out 'Homework Help' and 'Homework Talk', where students can play learning games or ask a teacher for help with homework. 'Kokona Māori' is a new direct link to access Māori content. Every term there is a new 'Topic' with independent learning activities that correspond to the New Zealand curriculum, and every month there is a new 'Cool Kiwi'.
