Te Ao Hurihuri: Auckland museum schools programme
2 March 2009 – 25 September 2009
Auckland Museum, He Taonga Māori.
Who are you? Where do you belong? What makes you special? How does the past make you who you are today?
Explore the significance of tangata whenua and issues of personal and cultural identity. Māori educators share with students aspects of their identity as Māori and draw links between the taonga (treasures) on display and the concepts and values of their ancestors.

Matariki Program: Auckland Museum
15 June 2009 – 4 July 2009
Auckland museum, He Taonga Māori exhibition gallery and the Stevenson Learning Lab
Through this programme students will work throughout the Museum with Māori educators to reflect how Matariki relates to Te Ao Tawhito (the world of the ancestors). Within the Māori galleries, He Taonga Māori and Te Ao Tūroa, the focus is on identity and the relationship between people and the land. In the Learning Lab students engage in further activities as they work through three days of the lunar calendar during Matariki. Each day focuses on activities related to the realm of a specific atua (deity). For example, in relation to Tangaroa (atua of the sea) students will help make a fishing net and other small objects that they will take away as reminders of their experiences. Links to Social Sciences and Technology curriculums. Programs available in te reo Māori years 1 – 13 or English years 1 – 8. Duration: 2 hours. Student numbers: Min 20, Max 30. Cost per student: $8. Matariki Māori: Short Film Festival
