Alignment of NCEA Standards with The New Zealand Curriculum (2007)
Alignment of NCEA standards with The New Zealand Curriculum
The Ministry of Education, in association with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, contracted the national subject associations to carry out a review of all curriculum-related standards so that they are aligned to The New Zealand Curriculum (2007).
This review will also address any issues of duplication between standards and ensure credit parity. As announced by Minister of Education in December 2008, the reviewed standards will be implemented over three years with Level 1 introduced in 2011, Level 2 in 2012, and Level 3 in 2013.
NCEA standards alignment pages - draft materials
The development of standards and assessment resources is an iterative process. The pages below will contain all the draft standards and assessment resources as they are developed. As the project refines the drafts, updated materials will be placed here for teachers and schools to view and use as planning tools for implementation.
The final versions of standards will be published, after registration on the National Qualification Framework, by NZQA and placed on the NZQA website. Final versions of assessment resources and exemplars will be published on TKI in the usual way.
Level 1 Standards and Assessment Resources
Level 1 standards have been drafted, consulted on in June 2009, and have been amended in light of the feedback received. They are presented on the pages through the links above. The exception is in Technological Context Knowledge and Skills, where further work is progressing.
Assessment resources for new or significantly changed standards are currently being drafted. Resources for internally assessed standards are intended to be trialled in schools in Terms 1 and 2 2010. Resources for externally assessed standards will be trialled in Term 4 2009 and Term 1 2010. All of these resources will be placed on the pages through the links above when they become available in 2010.
Level 2 Standards and Assessment Resources
Level 2 standards are in draft form for most subject areas and will be placed here as they become available. Consultation on the draft standards is planned for August/September 2010.
