Roles of the Pasifika Advisory Group (PAG)

Since the Ministry of Education established the Pasifika Advisory Group in 1995, the role of the Group has evolved to provide the following services:

Pasifika star Identifying issues and barriers to education: The Group advises the Ministry of Education on:

Pasifika star Education plan: The Group assists the Ministry in developing, implementing, promoting, and monitoring the Pasifika Education Plan.

Pasifika star Consultation: The Group provides opportunities for consulting Passifika communities helping the Ministry to better develop policy and operational activities that meet the educational aspirations of Pasifika communities.

Pasifika star Local initiatives: The Group supports the Ministry's Pasifika Education Coordinators and Pasifika Team members to set up local reference/advisory groups, and to help regional and local Ministry offices identify local priorities and develop local policies and plans so that they are explicit in addressing Pasifika priorities. They also assist the office in monitoring the outcomes of these initiatives.

Pasifika star Inter-governmental: The work of the Group helps fulfil the goals of the Ministry's Protocol with the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs. The group also advises on the work of the other education agencies.

Pasifika star Other Ministry projects: Members of the Group provide advice on other Ministry projects as appropriate to their skills and experience (such as early childhood education).

Pasifika star Community knowledge: Members of the Group gain specific knowledge about the role of the Ministry and other education agencies that can be provided to Pasifika communities as required.
