Smart Fibres
This Techlink case study focuses on the breakthrough use of nanotechnology using smart fibres. A group of Australian researchers have developed a 'wearable instrument shirt'. It has sensors embedded in it, which pick up the movements made when a wearer picks chords and strums his or her imaginary instrument. Custom software translates the movements into a signal which is wirelessly relayed to a computer for audio. This site includes information about techniques used and explores future possibilities of taking textiles into realms way beyond their conventional applications of protection and fashion.
