When I print, some of the text is missed off. What should I do?

All printers have different settings and the width of the page you wish to print could be outside the printable area. When you choose print in your browser, look for the properties or options dialogue box and choose "scale to fit" or set "scaling" at 85% which will make the whole page fit to the printer paper size.

What are the best settings for my computer so that I can see TKI at its best? Or, TKI looks strange on my computer, what can I do?

TKI has been developed to operate best at 800 x 600 screen resolution and Version 4 browser or above. In the Control Panel on a PC choose Display / Settings / Screen Area 800 x 600 or on the Mac choose display on the Control Strip.

What does URL mean?

Uniform Resource Locator. This is a unique address for a web page, which is like a telephone number, for instance, www.tki.org.nz.

I'd like to be able to find out more about an Internet site such as its country of origin?

A good way to find the origin of a web page is to look at its URL. Usually the URL for the page will consist of the domain name (an identifiable name, i.e. TKI) followed by an extension; .co .com .org or .net that denotes which type of organisation it might be and the last extension; .nz, .au, .uk, will give the country of origin of the page.

What is a full record?

The record (or Metadata Record, "data about data", or catalogue information) displays useful information about the item. Click on an underlined hyperlink to see all the records that share the same term.

How can I open TKI materials that are in formats that I can't read?

Some resources on TKI are in Word document format (file.doc) or portable document format (file.pdf). Both of these formats require a plug-in for your browser. If the page does not open then you should go to http://www.tki.org.nz/e/tki/help/plugins.php and select the plug-in you require.
