Check out these online support materials that have been developed to be used in conjunction with the theatrical production/DVD Māui – One man against the gods. The notes help teachers lead their students in explorations of visual language and performance, and contain units of work, and a toolkit with classroom questions and a brief description of the drama practices. The material can be used both prior to viewing the show and following the performance.

Check out the archived programmes now available in digital format through The New Zealand Film Archive. The geography, history, and social studies collections support NCEA prescriptions in these subjects, and there are disks for New Zealand topics of immigration, wars, women, youth, and New Zealand identity themes. The education package for each disk includes a teacher’s booklet, with online lesson plans being available for some. Borrowing the disks is free for New Zealand schools; orders can be made online from the site.

View online multimedia resources for the teaching of physics at NCEA level in te reo Māori. Part of the New Zealand Teachers' Physics Resource Bank, each resource has suggestions for classroom activities, links to NCEA, and related topics. Although each resource can be viewed online, teachers can request DVD copies. The resources were created by Victoria University, Te Kura Māori o Porirua and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o te Ara Whānui.

Encourage young writers to enter the secondary school category of the Pikihuia Awards. Prizes are given for short stories in Māori and English, and a novel in English. The finalists will be published in Huia Short Stories 7 – the contemporary fiction series published by Huia Publishers. Entries close 15 May 2007.
