Learning Grid
How to Use Learning Grids
Write out the content and language learning outcomes of the unit in grid form. Give a copy to each student at the beginning of the unit. The students tick the appropriate boxes and then share their learning outcomes (those outcomes not ticked) with a partner. At the middle and end of the unit the students tick more boxes as they master the content and language learning outcomes. At all stages the teacher uses the responses as feedback to inform the next teaching and learning steps.
The Benefits of Learning Grids
Learning grids clarify the content and language learning outcomes of a unit. They encourage students to focus on the learning outcomes, and to monitor their progress. They provide immediate feedback to teachers on student learning, enabling teachers to plan teaching to meet the students' identified learning needs.
