Teaching Strategies

Matching Exercise

How to Use Matching Exercise
Create a series of clear diagrams that illustrate central concepts of the unit of work. Write out a simple description, and an abbreviated description that includes minimal words and diagram. Mix up the three sections. Give a copy to each student to match up. The students then discuss their choices with a partner. The teacher listens in on discussions and whole class discussion focuses on areas of uncertainty.

Benefits of Matching Exercise
The students build on their understanding of both curriculum concepts and academic language.
