Teaching Strategies
Sequencing
Students are given sentences on a topic (usually on cards) that they need to sequence using clues such as connectives and context. This can be done individually, then in pairs and/or groups. It is important to encourage students to talk to each other about reasons for changing the position of cards.
The benefits of Sequencing
- Helps students to notice how texts are organised.
- Encourages students to use cohesive devices in their own writing.
- Provides a good framework for a follow-up writing activity.
