Vocabulary Revision Activities
Include one at the start of each class.
- Jeopardy. Write the words on the board in jumbled order. Dictate the
definition or show a picture. The students write down the words in the correct
order.
- Bingo 1. Students write down six of the new words of the topic. The teacher
says the word. The students put a cross through the word if they have it.
The first person with all six words crossed out is the winner. The words
must be spelt correctly to be a winner.
- Bingo 2. The students write down six words from the vocabulary of the
topic. The teacher calls out the definition. The students cross off the
word if it is on their list. The first person with all six words crossed
out is the winner. The words must be spelt correctly to be a winner.
- Bingo 3. Match the words and the pictures. The students write down six
words from their word list. The teacher points to the pictures. The students
cross out a word if they have it. The first person with all six words crossed
out is the winner. The words must be spelt correctly to be a winner.
- Bingo 4 The teacher gives out a set of 6 words and definitions (jumbled)
to pairs of students. The teacher calls out words from the vocabulary list.
The first pair to have all six words and definitions matched are the winners.
- Bingo 5 The teacher gives out a set of 6 pictures and definitions (jumbled)
to pairs of students. The teacher calls out words from the vocabulary list.
The first pair to have six pictures and definitions matched are the winners.
- Bingo 6. The students write down six of the vocabulary words. The teacher
gives out a set of definitions per person. As the teacher calls out the
word, the students must place the correct definition on top of the word.
The first student with six correct definitions is the winner.
- Bingo 7. The teacher makes up cards of 6 - 9 sets of pictures from the
unit. The teacher calls out the words. The students cover their picture
with a piece of paper. The first student to have all 6 / 9 words covered
is the winner if that student can call back the words pronouncing them correctly.
Alternatively, the students could draw six pictures for themselves.
- Matching definitions. The teacher gives a set of words and definitions
and pictures to pairs. The first pair with all three matched correctly for
each word are the winners.
