Being productive

Read about the production roles, look at the production team, and read the interview with Vanessa Alexander to help you answer these questions.

  • How many of these jobs do you recognise?
  • Do you know what all these people do?
  • If Being Eve were a play, what might they be doing?
  • What got Vanessa Alexander hooked on Being Eve?
  • Does she see the series as being different from other television series for young people?
  • Magik and Rose was Vanessa Alexander's first New Zealand feature film. In what way was that different from what Vanessa Alexander is doing now?
  • Who does Vanessa Alexander give credit to?
  • How important is a writer to a television series?
  • Do you know the names of any writers of television episodes or series?
  • Does the writer of a television series have much of a role to play in depicting who we are?

You are aiming to devise about 3-5 minutes worth of script. The object is to be original but to stick to the given synopsis. Each group needs to appoint group members to be:

Peter Salmon, director, with Fleur Saville and Vanessa Alexander.
  • the director, who keeps an overall eye on the scene and thinks about what has gone before and what will come afterwards;
  • the playwright, who writes down the devised script as it's created for all to have as a record;
  • a timekeeper for your rehearsals who reminds you how much time you have left;
  • two class stage managers to keep everyone focused back stage so that they come on when they are supposed to.
