Fleur Saville was chosen to play the lead role of Eve Baxter in Being Eve from nearly 1000 girls who attended open auditions throughout New Zealand.
Saville, who has been performing on the stage since she was 10-years-old, says being cast in the lead role of a television drama series was "a dream come true".
"A friend told me about the audition and I went along with dozens of teenage girls," she says.
"I remember that I had number 31 written on my hand. I was just another girl waiting in a queue. I just wanted to give it a go because if you don't try, you'll never know!
"I've been singing, dancing and acting in shows since I was 10, but this was the first TV thing I'd done. I thought the audition went well, but I didn't let myself have high expectations because I didn't want to set myself up for disappointment. So I was totally surprised and excited when Mum told me the producers had phoned to say I had the part.
"I've always wanted to make performing my career, so this is like an amazing dream," says Saville, whose other passions include singing and horse riding.
Eve is 15 years old and a born anthropologist. She is described as one of those kids who sat on the side of the sandpit watching the other children, trying to figure out what was going on in their tiny minds.
She's an observer, having long since figured out that it's much safer not to get too involved. On the other hand, her burning curiosity means that sometimes she just can't help interfering, usually with amusing consequences.
"Eve is a little nerdy, but cool," says Fleur, who had to cut her long blonde hair and dye it mousy brown for the role. "She thinks out loud a lot of the time and can jump to conclusions when it comes to boys."
Eve spends most of her time with her two best friends Sylvie (Joanna Morrison) and Matt (Lionel Wickliffe) and hasn't had much interest in boys until the arrival of Adam (David de Lautour), the new boy at school.
