- Is it hard to play a character below your own age?
- Is it possible for your character to develop?
"Dramas, boys, fashion, parties, boys and more boys," is how Joanna Morrison describes the life of her character, Sylvie Stern, in Being Eve.
Sylvie is one of Eve's best friends – but the two girls are complete opposites. Bold and outspoken, Sylvie throws herself into life, boots and all. And she can't understand why Eve spends so much time analysing everything.
Sylvie's into boys, the latest clothes, whatever's happening right now. She wants to be the first to do everything, which means she often finds herself in the middle of some drama or another – perfect material for Eve's studies of teen life.
"Sylvie is lively, hilarious and wonderful," says 18-year-old Morrison. "She can seem quite self-involved but she has a wonderful heart and a real honesty about her.
"If she's happy, then she's really happy. But if there's something wrong – oh no! She has full on emotions!"
Morrison is the middle child in a family of seven children and she is one of several siblings who have the acting bug.
"Acting has always been a major part of me. I love it!" she says. "Being a professional actor has always been my ambition."
Morrison began her acting career at the age of 5 years, when she appeared in a television commercial. Since then she's had lead roles in numerous school drama productions as well as small parts on the popular New Zealand drama series, Shortland Street and Jacksons Wharf.
Playing a lead role in a television series has been a thrill for Morrison, who has also enjoyed the opportunity to make wonderful friends with other people on the show.
"I go shopping with David and went to the Christmas in the Park concert with Fleur," she says.
Morrison definitely wants to continue acting, but her next goal is to travel on her "Big OE".
