Activities
1. Follow the instructions on the package to install Creative Explorer CD-ROM. Open up the programme and wait for the introductory section to unfold in front of you. When you reach the beach explore the following:
The seagull is your cursor. Take your seagull on a flight around the site.
As you slowly move it over places such as the tree, the flax, and the rock pool you should notice a change of light movement and a sound clue.
There are six different New Zealand artists hidden in these places.
Fly your seagull over to the volcano. That's where there's plenty of "activity"! We'll return to that place later.
Choose one of the artists by clicking on the special place.
Take about twenty minutes following pathways of your own choice. What can you find out?
2. When you want to return to the main menu select BACK and you will return to previous pages. If you want to go to the same artists menu, click above the beach on "Artists World". An alternative way is to click on the beach site when you are at the menu section of the artist.
3. At the beach choose another artist. This time you will have some questions to guide your exploration. Take about twenty minutes and answer the following:
- Who is the artist and what are they known for?
- What factors influenced them as developing artists?
- What does the artist think about the notion of creativity?
- Why do they do what they do?
Note your answers down as they will make useful comparisons with the other artists.
4. During this exploratory phase see if you can locate some of the following devices used to assist the user in researching information.
- Dictionary
- Māori
- Glossary (blue text)
- Pop Ups
- "Quote"
5. Return to the main menu (BACK) and select the volcano. Here the six artists invite you to try your hand with their individual art form.
Choose an artist and spend about twenty minutes experimenting with the arts activity. Play around with ideas and have some fun!
6. Review your work by thinking about the following questions:
- What activity did you do and how do you rate it on a scale of 1 (disappointing) to 5 (fantastic)?
- Can you say why?
- What difficulties (if any) did you encounter?
- How did you resolve the difficulties?
- How would you set up this activity for a group of students?
- Where will you explore next time?
Note your answers down for easy reference.
