Unit Two : Creative Explorer - Dance
Introducing the Work of Three Different Artists

Introduction

This is the first of four opportunities for you to make links with artists on Creative Explorer and the arts disciplines outlined in the Arts Curriculum.

Dance is the main focus for this unit.

The work begins at the computer, then using the ideas generated, students move into another space for further exploration, development and refinement.

It is estimated that a minimum of five hours is needed to complete this unit.

Essential Skills
Communication Skills:

  • Convey and receive information, instruction, ideas, and feelings appropriately and effectively in a range of different cultural, language, and social contexts.

Achievement Objectives

  • Use a range of vocabularies, techniques, processes and technologies to extend dance practice
  • Select, combine, and manipulate the elements of dance to develop ideas
  • Explore, view and respond to dance using a variety of technologies
  • Investigate the functions of dance in past and present cultures.


Specific Learning Outcomes
Students will:

  • Locate Neil Ieremia (dance) and select his introductory page
  • Explore several pathways to gain information about Neil's background and work and increase own dance vocabulary
  • Use set questions to gain information in and about dance
  • Make links and view dance ideas through other artists on Creative Explorer
  • Using Dance Activities, view and respond to the video clips
  • Choreograph own dance using the dance choreographer and print a copy of plan
  • Rehearse and refine plan then perform own choreographed dance
  • Develop own set of ideas for learning in, through and about dance for your classroom.
