Unit Three : Creative Explorer - Music
Introducing the Work of Three Different Artists

Introduction

This is the second of four opportunities for you to make links with artists on Creative Explorer and the arts disciplines outlined in the Arts Curriculum.

Music is the main focus for this unit.

The work begins at the computer, then using the ideas generated, students move into another space for further exploration, development and refinement.

Essential Skills
Problem Solving:

  • Make connections and establish relationships exercise imagination, initiative, and flexibility

  • Try out innovative and original ideas.

Achievement Objectives

  • Recognise a range of patterns, structures, effects, and sound qualities and experiment with them using electronic technologies
  • Use musical elements and structural devices to create brief compositions and improvisations
  • Prepare, present and evaluate a range of musical pieces for a variety of purposes
  • Identify and compare styles and genres of music in relation to past and present contexts.


Specific Learning Outcomes
Students will:

  • Locate Maree Sheehan (music) and select her introductory page
  • Use set questions to gain information about Maree's life, work and musical styles
  • Increase own musical literacy by exploring pathways, process, and works
  • Make links with other artists on Creative Explorer by tracking common ideas
  • Using the music activity, create own piece of music and print
  • Compose own piece of music / song using ideas based on the pentatonic scale
  • Practice and perform own individual / group composition
  • Develop own set of ideas for learning in, through, and about music for your students

  • Investigate and explain the use and operation of a range of technologies in everyday uses such as - composing and recording music electronically.

Strand C: Technology and Society

Achievement Objectives:

  • The present impact, and the possible future effects, of some instances of rapidly changing technologies, such as computer music technology.
