Hip hop

(You will find Hip hop on DVD 2, track 2)

Background information

Hip hop is a youth culture that originated in the late 1960s and the 1970s and involves graffiti, rap, break-dancing, and DJ-ing.

Hip hop dances are often performed in unison and provide the visual accompaniment to singers in live performances or on music videos. Hip hop relies more on dancing on the feet than balancing on the hands and other body parts as in break-dance. Some of the moves involve isolating parts of the body, for example, moving just the shoulder, ribcage, head, or hips. Popping describes a sudden muscle contraction in the arms, neck, chest, or legs, and locking is a sudden freezing of movement.
