These materials relate to selected parts of two of the drama strands from The Arts in the New Zealand Curriculum.

Communicating and Interpreting Drama (CI)
Students will view live drama, developing skills of interpretation and critical analysis. As responsive audience members, they interpret and respond to dramatic forms and examine how different technologies affect communication and interpretation in live drama.

Understanding Drama in Context (UC)
Students will explore the forms and purposes of drama and investigate how people use drama to comment on personal and cultural values.

The specific ahievement objectives are as follows:

Communicating and Interpreting Drama (CI) Students will respond to and make critical judgments about rehearsal processes and performances. Students will reflect on, and critically evaluate, a wide range of works and performances.
Understanding Drama in Context (UC) Students will research the production, performance and purpose of drama in a range of contexts. Students will research and analyse how drama interprets and records social and cultural history.

These materials relate to the following Achievement Standards of Level 2 of the National Certificate of Educational Achievement. (Note: They would also relate to certain Level 3 NCEA Achievement Standards, but these were not fully approved by publication date of this document.)

Drama techniques Achievement Drama standard 90300 2.2 Apply drama techniques in a group within a scripted context.
Theatre study Achievement Drama standard 90302 2.4 Demonstrate knowledge of a drama/theatre form or period through performing a role in a presentation.
