Found objects
Level 2, for use with poster 1
Put together a box of objects that suggest a particular role, for example, an old lady called Nancy. Objects might include an old rug, a postcard addressed to Nancy, a gardening magazine, an old box camera, old photographs, a cat collar, an old hat, a plastic daffodil, and so on.
The students try to discover who these objects might belong to. They arrange the objects to suggest the person and choose one student to step into the space as that person. Other students speak the voices in the head of the role. Based on the role’s thoughts, pictures of her life are created by using the freeze-frame convention. The students, in role as people who knew Nancy, improvise short conversations about her.
