Role reflection
This page includes information about reflection in role and out of role.
Reflection can take place within a drama while students are still in role, using such reflective conventions as voices in the head, spoken thoughts, or conscience alley. This allows the students to review the drama’s progress, to comment on what has happened, or to express a character’s thoughts.
The students and teacher can also step out of role to reflect on what has happened, to view and shape the work, and to give feedback. This reflective process may bring up more questions than answers, as drama often unlocks the deeper issues of human experience and shows up evident contradictions. Some of these questions may lead to further drama explorations.
