Year 1–8 drama programme needs
Think about the pros and cons of teaching drama in general classrooms, as distinct from separate (probably larger) spaces.
Empty space is central to all work in drama. This can be achieved by providing a separate space suitable for drama and by helping teachers make the best use of general classrooms.
The lack of a suitable separate space should not become a reason for less drama. In the curriculum, the guidelines to "present about" and "respond to" do not necessarily imply formal performance – ongoing informal sharing of work is important, both within and between classes.
However, a separate space for drama is helpful at all levels and especially important at years 7–8.
