Naenae College
A purpose-built music suite caters for curriculum music with a focus on technology. The music suite is adjacent to the school hall and a drama room.
The music facility was designed in collaboration with nearby commercial sound recording organisations, and facilities are rented out for professional recording sessions. For this reason, the sound insulation is designed to limit the amount of sound entering the music classrooms.
The two music classrooms contain an array of instruments. They are located on either side of a control room that doubles as a computer room.
The control room houses the main control panel for the audio, intercom, and computer cabling in all classrooms and practice rooms. Substantial sound and computer cabling is built in, but simple hooks in corridors carry additional leads when required.
Practice rooms have insulated doors and double-glazed internal windows to prevent sound transmission, plus irregular ceilings and angled walls to improve acoustics in the room. Two of the practice rooms have a linking window to facilitate recording.
All walls in the facility, including corridors, are lined with timber and fabric to insulate rooms from external sound and a groove at the skirting separates flooring from walls to reduce reverberation.
