Performing Arts Facilities in Schools

Otumoetai Intermediate School

A compact, purpose-built music and dance/drama facility adjoins the visual arts room at Otumoetai Intermediate. The entrance lobby is shared with visual arts to reinforce the links across the arts.

The music room is of regular classroom size and has built-in shelving and double doors to a storage room. Two music practice rooms open off the entrance lobby, so are acoustically separated from classrooms.

A large dance/drama studio has full mirrors on one wall, ample natural light, vinyl flooring over concrete, and a storage room opening onto the main space. A carpeted entrance area keeps student belongings out of the main space and is used as a lobby when community groups hire the space.

A school hall is across the playground. Behind the hall stage, a carpeted drama room with tiered seating provides an intimate venue for classes and performances.
