Performing Arts Facilities in Schools

Seatoun School

Seatoun School was recently rebuilt on a new site. The performing arts room is attached to a large multi-purpose auditorium. The block also includes specialist rooms for technology and visual arts.

The hall is set up as a gymnasium but is also used for performances, productions, and assemblies. Custom-made, portable modular staging is light enough for primary-age children to carry, and has interlocking feet for safety. Solid storage room doors along one wall of the hall create a wall when closed.

The performing arts room is approximately 8 metres square. It is designed primarily for music, with a large storage cupboard for instruments, but is also used for drama. The space can be extended in two directions – classes can access the hall and a courtyard across a corridor. The design brief included the specification that the folding doors would be able to be operated by students.
