Winners and awards in 2003
A large portion of the prize package for the event has been supplied by the music industry, because the music industry places importance on supporting Coke Smokefree Rockquest. This has positive spin-offs for both the event and other sponsors by adding credibility.
National winner
Falter, from Mairehau High School in Christchurch, were the national winners of Coke Smokefree Rockquest 2003.
The Edge Airplay Award: As their main prize, Falter won The Edge Airplay Award, in association with New Zealand On Air. This package consists of:
- flights to Auckland and accommodation for the band and a parent/support person
- two songs recorded in York St Studio Auckland, including a single to radio release quality
- an experienced producer to mix and record the songs
- minimum of three hours airtime (or 50 rotations) on The Edge for the single
- live interview when the song is first played on air
- inclusion on one of the New Zealand On Air hit discs that go to every radio station
- full backing of the New Zealand On Air music promotion team
- funding of $5000 from New Zealand On Air for making music video of the single.
They also won $10,000 (incl. GST) of musical equipment supplied by:
- New Zealand Rock Shops
- Direct Imports NZ Ltd, The Electric Factory Ltd
- Roland NZ Ltd.

Runners-up
The Rabble, from Orewa College, Auckland, were first runners-up, and the second runners-up were Fifth Element, a band with members from three Christchurch schools – Hornby High School, Shirley Boys High School, and Aranui High School.
Prizes: The Rabble won vouchers worth $5,000 (incl. GST) and Fifth Element won vouchers worth $3,000 (incl. GST) from:
- New Zealand Rock Shops
- Direct Imports NZ Ltd
- The Electric Factory Ltd
- Roland NZ Ltd.
Both bands will have two songs recorded and produced, which will be released on the sponsors' websites.
National finalists
All the bands that competed in the national final (apart form the winner) had their airfares and accommodation (valued at approximately $8000) provided by Rockquest Promotions Ltd.
Smokefree Pacifica Beats
Spacifix, from Kelston Boys High School and Avondale College, Auckland, won the Smokefree Pacifica Beats Award national competition. Spacifix won the recording of two songs, plus $2500 cash.
Petes Beats, from Waiopehu College in Levin, were first runners-up. They won $1500 cash.
Associated awards
Coke Anthem Award – won by Fifth Element, who were selected from the semi-finalists to feature in a Coke Anthems Radio advertisement.
Smokefree Award for Woman's Musicianship – won by Holly Fullbrook, a vocalist/cellist/songwriter from Avondale College in Auckland. She won $1000 cash.
Lyricwriters Award – regional winners of this award received certificates, and the national winner, Courtney Meredith from Western Springs College in Auckland, won $500 cash.
Contempo Scholarship – awarded for outstanding musicianship at the national final. Simon Hughes from Falter won this scholarship, which provides one year's tuition fees for a tertiary music course (up to a value of $3000, including GST).

Regional place-getters
Equipment vouchers to the value of $22 000 for the groups that won first, second, and third place in each region were donated by:
- New Zealand Rock Shops
- Direct Imports NZ Ltd
- The Electric Factory Ltd
- Roland NZ Ltd.
Television coverage
All the finalists also received the bonus of appearing in the television series of five half-hour episodes screened on TV2 in November and December 2003. The series was primarily funded by New Zealand on Air, with additional funding provided by Coke and Smokefree. It was produced by Francesca Rudkin for Screentime/Communicado.
The Smokefree Pacifica Beats national final was also covered in two one-hour television specials screened on TV2 in October 2003. This show was mainly funded by New Zealand On Air, and was produced by Mai Time.
Success for TV series
The television series about Coke Smokefree Rockquest 2002 was one of three finalists in the Children's TV section of the 2003 TV Guide Awards.
...the National Final of Coke Smokefree Rockquest was the closest thing to Kiwi Rock history in the making.
