Application details for schools (Strand 1)
All state and state integrated schools with years 9 to 13 students may apply to participate in the project.
Schools apply each year to participate in the Secondary Schools Arts Coordinators project.
Purpose for funding
Schools receive funds to assist them provide enriching opportunities associated with a quality arts education (such as gallery visits, itinerant performers, theatre shows, arts festivals) and may occur inside or outside of school. It is intended that these opportunities will support student learning and the achievement objectives of the Arts Curriculum document.
The funds may also be used to assist schools to hire someone to coordinate these opportunities to assist arts teachers to access these opportunities for students.
Applications from secondary schools should provide an outline of how the school plans to use the funds to assist teachers of the visual arts, dance, drama, and music to extend student understanding and learning in each of the four arts disciplines.
Criteria
The school is required to demonstrate a commitment to the project and a willingness to contribute from their own resources.
A report on the outcomes related to the school plan will be presented by participating schools to their Board of Trustees by 15 November 2008.
No copy of the report will be required by the Ministry of Education in 2008.
In addition, the Ministry intends to randomly audit progress in schools through onsite visits to support and share best practice.
School allocations
The present funding formula will be applied for 2008. School allocations are based on $2,000 for all state and integrated secondary schools, with the residual amount of funds divided amongst all eligible schools based on their roll number.
