The artworks displayed here are a selection from the Auckland Intermediate Art Exhibition 2003.
The exhibition, opened by Camilla Highfield, Ministry of Education, Curriculum Facilitator – The Arts, was on show to the public at Auckland's Aotea Centre for three weeks in October 2003.
This exhibition has been held annually for over 30 years, and is organised by the Auckland Intermediate Art Teachers Association with generous sponsporship from The Aotea Centre, The Edge and a private citizen, David Baylis.
Schools are invited to submit paintings, sculptures, prints, ceramics and mixed media art works. Over 30 schools regularly participate, and a selection panel chooses works that will be exhibited.
The artworks selected represent the wide variety of media, processes, and ideas explored by intermediate students in the Auckland region. The work selected for the website represents student outcomes from teaching programmes based on the Visual Arts Level 4 Achievement Objectives of The Arts in New Zealand Curriculum.
Students are acknowledged for their high quality work, and teachers gain professionally from this exhibition.
