From early 2005, student artwork from schools has been on show in the foyer of one of the Ministry of Education's head office buildings in Wellington.
Display cases were set up in the tenth floor foyer of Vogel Building and in the staff tea area. By mid way through 2005, Ministry staff had enjoyed artwork by students from the following schools:
- Heretaunga College, Upper Hutt – years 9–13 students
- Royal Oak Intermediate School, Auckland – years 7–8
- Sunset Junior High School, Rotorua – year 8
- Hutt Intermediate School – years 7–8 (two displays)
- King's School, year 8–9.
Judy Matthew, who initiated the displays, found that Ministry staff really appreciated seeing the artwork schools are producing and wanted more people to be able to see them. So she set up this online gallery.
Opportunity for schools
Judy would like to hear from other schools that would like to display examples of their students' artwork in the Ministry office in Vogel Building and possibly in this on-line gallery.
All artwork will be returned to schools after the display period, which is usually 2-3 weeks.
Teachers who are interested in providing artwork will need to obtain written consent from the student artists. To download a student consent form, select from the following Word or PDF formats:
