Background | Teaching process | Student samples – Jason, Shane, Nicola | Resources

Teaching process

Students completed a 40 minute pre-test writing task using a planning template titled Fun with a friend. Students had 10 minutes to edit their stories.

Students were presented with examples of quality writing. These examples included:

Subsequent teaching focused on good beginning and endings to stories, using similes and metaphors, and using personal memorable moments as the basis for writing.

Students were taught how to complete a writing self-assessment form based on criteria. This criteria was developed from English Online activity titled Camp Thrills, Chills and Spills.

Students self-assessed their writing based on the planning template "Fun with a friend" using a self-assessment form. The students completed subsequent writing activities incorporating both self-assessment of writing and target setting for future writing.
