The task
The teacher gave the students two sets of fractions and asked them to put each set in order from smallest to largest. One set was a set of unit fractions ( , , , , ), and the other was a set of fractions with a common denominator ( , , , , ).
Mike's work shows that he is able to:
- rank unit fractions from smallest to largest
- rank fractions with common denominators from smallest to largest
- state an understanding of rules for ranking both kinds of fractions.
