The task
The students are:
- shown a selection of shapes, including squares, rectangles, diamonds, regular hexagons, regular octagons, circles, and equilateral, right-angled, and scalene triangles
- asked to identify which shapes will tessellate and say why.
Keiran's work shows that he is able to:
- join identical shapes to cover a surface
- choose shapes that are regular and identical
- state an idea of why shapes tessellate: "Hexagons fit together because their sides are all the same."
Esther's work shows that she is able to:
- identify four shapes that tessellate
- state an idea of why these four shapes tessellate.
