The task
The students are:
- shown a selection of shapes, including squares, rectangles, diamonds, regular hexagons, regular octagons, circles, and equilateral, right-angled, and scalene triangles
- asked to identify which shapes will tessellate and say why.
Jonathan's work shows that he knows that four right angles fit around a point, and that he is able to:
- use the correct convention to show which angles are right angles
- use knowledge of right angles to show that right-angled triangles tessellate.
Wiremu's work shows that he knows that four right angles fit around a point, and that he is able to:
- use the correct convention to show which angles are right angles.
- use knowledge of right angles to show that squares tessellate.
