The task
The students are required to compare two lengths. The teacher set the question "Will the table fit through the door?"
Joshua's work shows that he is able to:
- identify the attributes to be compared (the widths of the table and the doorway)
- choose appropriate non-standard units of measure (the orange rods)
- express the measurements by counting the total number of units used: "The door is nine orange rods wide, and the table is less than eight, so it will fit."
