The task

The students are required to compare two lengths. The teacher set the question "Will the table fit through the door?"

Rawinia's work shows that she knows a range of measuring strategies and is able to:

  • identify the problem as a comparison task
  • estimate the likely answer and then choose an appropriate strategy to check this estimate
  • understand that, for this task, it is not necessary to be exact
  • select the appropriate method of measurement for the given situation.
