Down By The Sea

Who lives There. ?

At the waters edge it is a very desirable place. All the rock pool creatures would live there if they could fit. Animals like living there because they are well protected and have lots of food.

THE ENEMIES

The real enemy at the waters edge is ... the starfish. It eats practically all of the shell fish!

WHAT DO THEY EAT?

If you are talking about cats eyes they are herbivores that means the eat plants talking about starfish they eat shell fish which means they are carnivores. About bread crumb sponge they don't have a mouth so they can't eat but as long as they're moist and not dry they will live.

How have they adapted to life?

In the past years lots of rock pool animals have changed. Just think about cats eyes now they have open and close doors. Starfish now have suckers on the end of their arms so they can open shell fish.

SPONGE

Sponges are simple animals. They don't have a mouth or any specialised part for feeding, moving or communicating. Their tissue holds moisture and is "spongy" to touch. It is the some as most plants it does not have a mouth so they keep alive it needs sunlight and minerals.

CATS EYES

Cats eye. Strange name isn't it? Well I suppose the cats eye is a strange thing, although as common as a mussel. If you are quick enough, when you pick up a cats eye, you will see a small creature that resembles the shape of a cats eye when it is dark.

STAR FISH

Starfish have many, many tiny feet. These feet cling to the rocks and stick them there hard. Although everyone likes and is interested in starfish, they are the "terrorists" of the sea. Starfish do not have a head.

BULL KELP

Bull Kelp is full of air. Small inflated pockets make it boyant. As Bull Kelp is a plant it feeds on sunlight and minerals.
