Emily and Sara's letter to the school

Transcript of student work

Dear (name withheld) School
Our names are Emily and Sara. We both play netball. We go to
(name withheld) School which is a small country school. We have
a native tree area and every child in the school has
an area to look after. We plant our own native trees and
sometimes we have working bees and some of the parents come
to help. We have a growing unit that we grow little plants in.
We are trying to grow seeds and cuttings at the moment.
Our native area looks very attractive next to our school we want
to attract lots of native birds we already have lots of
fantails because we have bugs and small berries in our native
area and they like eating them. In the summer time its really
great working in our areas. We plant little trees when we are
little and over the years the trees grow and so do we. Every year we
take a photo of the tree that we planted a few years ago. So we can
come back and say to your grandchildren or children I planted that big rimu when I was at this school. We sometimes use our areas for pet
day and they are judged and you get a certificate if you are
1st 2nd or 3rd. We have lots of extra little trees to
give away and we hope you will grow a native area
like ours. We are trying to encourage schools to develop a
native area. We want to show you how to plant little
trees to get you started.

Yours Sincerely Sara and Emily
