Progress Indicators

Investigating in Science

Exploring a situation
He describes some observations when he says, "Sound is caused when sound waves pass through a substance" (L2).

Processing and interpreting
He reaches a conclusion to a simple investigation and linked it to his own understanding when he says, "I would even guess that anything could make sound".

Reporting
Samuel reports on some of his investigations in an organised way when he writes, "Tap the tuning fork on something firm and quickly put in the water and watch the vibrations go through a substance".

Developing and Communicating Scientific Understanding

Using scientific ideas in constructing explanations
Samuel's written work and reports of his practical experiments show he can offer explanations for experiences using some scientific ideas.

Using scientific vocabulary
He experiments with vocabulary and uses correct labels such as: pitch, volume, vibrations.

Reflecting on their own understanding
Samuel describes changes in his own understanding when he says, "Sound is caused when sound waves pass through a substance".
