Reporting to staff – Considerations

Making sustained shifts in teacher practice is most effectively achieved when decision making is based on the use of relevant assessment tools and quality data analysis. The following is a list of considerations that management teams may use before reporting back to staff.

  • What is the purpose of reporting back to staff?
  • Who reports back?
  • What is reported back, how often, and to whom?
  • Is there a forum for feedback or quality learning circles to discuss the data?
  • What are the expectations for staff as a result of the information?
  • What are the goals going to be as a result of the information?
  • What support will the management team need to provide to ensure the goals can be met? (i.e. professional development – further support in data analysis)
  • What are the benefits going to be from implementing these new strategies?
  • How will the shifts in student achievement be monitored?
  • How can success be celebrated?
