National Assessment Strategy
Information about assessment can be used to improve teaching and learning. It enables teachers and schools to report on what students have achieved at certain points in time, and provides assurance to parents, boards, and the public about the quality of education.
Assessment is the process that helps us to focus on teaching, learning, and student achievement at classroom, school, and system levels.
- At classroom level, assessment is at the heart of teaching and learning.
- At school level, it is at the heart of school programme development.
- At system level, it is at the heart of policy development.
The National Assessment Strategy was launched in 1999 and focuses on:
- setting specific and challenging goals with students
- fostering partnerships in learning
- using information to improve learning
- developing high-quality assessment tools
- developing teachers' assessment literacy
- informing strategic planning.
