About asTTle

asTTle team

Professor John Hattie – Project Director
Professor Hattie has been involved in educational and psychometric research throughout his professional career since completing his PhD at the University of Toronto. He has lectured in Australia and the United States of America and has been Head of School at the University of Western Australia, the University of North Carolina (Greensboro), and the University of Auckland. His special interests are assessment and measurement, self-concept, conceptions of learning, the role of feedback in education, and research methods.

Dr Gavin Brown – Senior Project Manager
Dr Brown taught for 13 years in secondary and tertiary environments specialising in English, remedial reading, and English as a Second Language. He graduated PhD in 2003 with a dissertation on New Zealand primary school teachers' conceptions of assessment. He currently lectures at the University of Auckland in classroom assessment. Gavin has been involved in the creation and design of asTTle since its inception. His interests are in literacy, large-scale assessment, and attitude assessment.

Dr Peter Keegan – Senior Advisor Māori
Peter Keegan (Waikato – Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou) is a lecturer in Te Aratiatia (Māori Education) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Auckland. He has a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington (2003) and has worked as a researcher for NZCER. His research interests include Māori word formation, Māori language and education.
