Chapters 7 and 8 explain how to set up and run asTTle V4 in a variety of computer environments. Chapter 7 describes the new operating mode, Multi-User, and Chapter 8 describes the Single-User application.

Multi-User asTTle

Multi-User asTTle is a new mode of operating the asTTle software that allows multiple users in any organisation to share all asTTle data from a single common data store. With Multi-User asTTle, all data about students, classes, and tests are stored in one location on a network, and all users can access and view the data and tests stored in that place. This greatly improves the ability of teachers in a school to share data and to improve their communication about student learning and teaching needs.

Single-User asTTle

Single-User asTTle runs on a single computer that is usually operated by a single person, with no connections to school networks. Within a school, data about students, classes and tests exist separately and independently on each user's computer. Sharing data between different computers requires a manual import/export process.

Test administration

The appendix provides instructions on how to operate the asTTle V4 software and administer asTTle tests. Specifically, it provides instructions, examples, and strategies for creating tests, administering them, scoring them, and entering data. This chapter is an ideal user's guide to administering asTTle tests to maximise valuable educational information.

Chapter 5 gives the reader an understanding of that philosophy and outlines some possible uses of asTTle V4. asTTle V4 has been devised with a clear philosophy of using assessment to improve the quality of teachers' instruction and students' learning.

Interpreting reports

Chapter 3 provides instructions and advice on how to interpret the asTTle V4 reports. Detailed instructions and explanations are given for the Single-Test and Multi-Test Reports including the Console Report, the NZ Comparisons Reports, the Individual and Group Learning Pathways Reports, the Curriculum Levels Report, the Tabular Report, and the What Next Report. Instructions for using the What Next Report Website are also included. Explanations of the asTTle scale and curriculum scores are given, along with advice on how to use the asTTle scores to monitor rates of student learning.
