Tessellations activities

Tiling with triangles

  1. Add several triangles to the workspace.
  2. Rotate and drag the triangles to 'tile' the workspace with a regular tessellation.

Tiling with polygons

  1. Form a regular tessellation using squares.
  2. Form a regular tessellation using hexagons.
  3. Form a regular tessellation using octagons.
  4. Explain why some shapes form regular tessellations while others do not.

Tiling with squares and octagons

Tessellate the plane with combinations of squares and octagons.

Tessellations using two or more regular polygons are called semi-regular tessellations if their vertex arrangements are the same.

Tiling with triangles and hexagons

Use triangles and hexagons to form a semi-regular tessellation.

Tessellations using two or more regular polygons are called semi-regular tessellations if their vertex arrangements are the same.

Tiling with three different shapes

Find a semi-regular tessellation that uses three different shapes.

Tessellations using two or more regular polygons are called semi-regular tessellations if their vertex arrangements are the same.
