Education for Enterprise in action
‘Education for Enterprise’ (E4E) is about giving young people chances to develop the “skills, competencies, understandings, and attributes which equip them to be innovative, and to identify, create, initiate, and successfully manage personal, community, business, and work opportunities, including working for themselves”.
In other words, it’s about helping students learn to do such things as identifying and managing risks, solving problems, working in teams, and using initiative and drive. See section on ‘Definition and attributes’.
E4E is not an additional programme, like technology, maths or science. It’s about putting the real world into learning that is already taking place in the classroom. E4E encourages young people to think ‘outside of the square’ and beyond the normal classroom settings. You and your business are key players in putting these real world contexts into students’ education.
Some examples of business involvement with local schools are recorded in the Apirama College and Linwood College digital stories.
Other examples of involvement could be:
- Students getting the opportunity to put their statistics and economic skills to practical use on real life cases from their business partner.
- Music students providing a special touch and atmosphere by performing at your business cocktail function.
