This is a transcript of Robert's speech, which illustrates an example of education "for" the environment at Otari School.

I'm 13 years old and I'm at Onslow College. Last year I was at Otari School. My classroom and I discovered that our local stream – the Kaiwharawhara – was dirty and polluted so as a school project we decided to help the stream by making the community aware of its actions. Each classroom came up with their own ideas like putting up signs around the area and even a video that talked about the stream and what was happening to it.

All these projects were successful so my classroom started another one. This time we decided to design a fridge magnet. The first thing we had to do was create a fridge magnet and out of those two, two were chose to be put together. When we were satisfied we sent our magnet design to some fridge magnet experts who helped us create our final design.

We hope that this will have a positive effect for the stream and for the school.
