This is a transcript of Yassmina's speech, which illustrates how students were involved in education "for" the environment at Otari School.

Hello I'm Yassmina. I'm one of Otari school's Hauora team member[s].

It all started in term 2 last year. Teachers picked four kids from two classes. What this team is based on doing is trying to make our school a better place. What we have been up to lately are two surveys. One on [how] whether our school is a friendly place or not. And two, if [we've] it is a clean place. Then we've found out that our school is a really, really friendly place but not so clean, so we really have to work on the litter part.

And we are also working on the field, we need a new field, but we think we should make it a soccer field because most of the kids in our school play soccer.

The second facility is, we're trying to make our school a litter free place because some kids said that they really found some rubbish lying around.

Third facility is shade because in term 1 and 4 we are not allowed to play outside without any hats. And some kids mostly forget their hats at their house so they can't play outside. But usually kids really need to go outside and play so that's a problem. Another problem we have is shade.

And we're trying to make our school the best school, and we're [are] hoping that we will achieve all the stuff that we are wanting to achieve.
