It is a requirement of the Health and Safety in Employment Act (1992) that those responsible for others in the work place are competent for the job. Such competencies need to be consistent with current accepted best practice.
Therefore, a leader or teacher in charge of an EOTC activity needs to develop and maintain competency related to current professional standards or accepted practices for that activity. For outdoor pursuits this is likely to be a recognised qualification or the equivalent in logged and verified experience.
The following resources, contacts, and websites, may help in the process of
checking requirements for leader competence.
