Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is parental consent required for every EOTC activity?
A.

Opinion differs on this. Best practice dictates that consent should be obtained for all EOTC activities. Whereas, the New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) focuses on specific types of activities.

They recommend that informed parental (caregiver) consent should be obtained when:

  • the EOTC activity extends beyond normal school hours (for example, overnight or in the weekends);
  • the EOTC activity involves risk (i.e., more than the amount associated with normal life); for example:
    • in Case One informed consent should be obtained;
    • in Case Two informed consent need not be obtained.
